We lucked out on the first day in Pátzcuaro with a parade celebrating First Apparition of Our Lady at Fátima. While enjoying our breakfast in the Plaza Vasco de Quiroga, we heard a marching band passing by. Instinctively, we grabbed our cameras and hurried into the crowd. Finding ourselves in the midst of dancers dressed in traditional bright coloured dresses, we followed the procession and photographing for over an hour.
There were mostly young kids in the procession plus half a dozen gauchos. The dancers stopped and performed their dances along the way through the town. The cowboys were showing off their riding skills and made the horses dance. The sight and sound was a treat on our first day in town.
