Butao Ramen House

Butao Japanese Ramen House

Hit the ground running after arriving in Hong Kong. Struggled with power adapter issues for 24 hours. Kept blowing the fuses on these units plugging in the MacBook. It’s all good now.

Found this cool little ramen place in the Central district of Hong Kong island. Run by a Fukuoka native, this noodle house sits about 12 people very uncomfortably. Long queues across this narrow Lane Street near Lan Kwai Fong.

After 30 minutes queuing up for a spot, we finally ordered the Tonkatsu soup based ramen with much anticipation. Slurping ramen loudly is still not coming naturally for me. I was definitely trying. It was worth the wait. The place feels authentic with the chefs yelling loudly in Japanese behind the counter (kitchen). It was hot and cramped but the kitchen smells wonderful.

I later found out that Butao only serves 250 bowls of ramen everyday. When they are done, they close. It’s kind of a weird concept but I think it works to their advantage. Looking at the long queues, I think this place is going to last for a little while in this competitive landscape.
